Silicone Defoamers: Revolutionary Solutions for Industrial Applications
Basic properties of silicone defoamer
Silicone defoaming agents are mainly composed of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), silicone oil, surfactants and various fillers. They achieve the purpose of defoaming by reducing the surface tension of the liquid and quickly destroying the foam. Silicone defoamer has the following characteristics:
•Low surface tension: can quickly spread to the foam surface and effectively destroy the foam;
•Good thermal stability: stable defoaming performance can be maintained at high temperatures;
•Chemical inertness: not prone to chemical reactions with treated substances, ensuring product quality;
•Environmentally friendly: Most silicone defoaming agents are non-toxic and harmless substances and have little impact on the environment.
working principle
The working mechanism of silicone defoamer mainly includes three aspects: destroying the foam film, promoting bubble merger and inhibiting bubble generation. When silicone defoamer is added to a system containing foam, it will quickly diffuse into the foam film and replace the water molecules on the foam film, reducing the elasticity and stability of the foam film, causing the foam to burst. At the same time, the surfactant in silicone defoamer can promote small bubbles to merge into large bubbles, which are easy to burst and release. In addition, by forming a thin film covering the liquid surface, the generation of new bubbles is effectively suppressed.
Wide range of applications
Silicone defoaming agents have been widely used in the following fields due to their excellent performance:
•Chemical manufacturing: Effectively control the generation of foam in chemical processes such as coatings, inks, and resin synthesis;
•Food processing: used in brewing, beverage production, and food processing to ensure product quality and production efficiency;
•Pharmaceutical industry: During the pharmaceutical production process, prevent foam from interfering with the production process and affecting product stability;
•Water treatment: used in sewage treatment, drinking water purification and other fields to improve treatment efficiency and water quality;
•Oil extraction: Reduce foam and improve extraction efficiency during drilling and oil extraction.
