How to dilute defoaming agent correctly
What are the effects of adding water to dilute the defoamer directly?
1. Poor stability; add water to dilute the defoamer directly, and the dilution ratio is inconsistent, which will directly cause the stability of the defoamer to become worse, and the defoaming/foam suppressing performance will also be affected; even if the defoaming/foam suppressing performance is Performance will not be affected, but defoaming/suppression stability will not be guaranteed.
2. Easy to stratify; adding water to dilute the defoamer breaks the viscosity system of the defoamer itself, so stratification will occur, making the defoamer look unbalanced and even white floating.
3. The anti-foaming and anti-foaming performance becomes worse; after adding water, the effective content of the defoaming agent will be significantly reduced, which means that the so-called solid content is seriously affected, so in the case of such a low solid content, the anti-foaming and anti-foaming performance will be certain. It will be greatly reduced.
Can be diluted by adding water directly
Can’t you just add water to dilute the defoamer? Of course, this is not always the case; if you are an end customer and use it on site, you can consider adding water to dilute it directly. The only thing you need to pay attention to is that the diluted defoaming agent should be used up on the same day according to the production needs of the day. The storage of products that have been diluted and not used up will also be affected. They are easy to deteriorate if left for a long time, which has a great impact.
The correct way to dilute defoaming agent
1. It is recommended to use thickener
It is not recommended to add water to dilute the defoamer directly, because adding water to dilute it will destroy the original structure of the defoamer, resulting in poor stability of the defoamer, breaking the viscosity system of the defoamer itself, and delamination if not properly controlled. , emulsification, precipitation and other situations.
2. It is recommended to use pH test paper to adjust the pH value
After the defoamer is diluted, you must pay attention to adjusting the pH value of the system, because the pH value will affect the pH value of the entire system and the later use effect. We recommend that you use pH test paper to detect the pH value, because the pH test paper measurement results will be more accurate. When using a pH meter, it must be calibrated regularly. If it is not calibrated for a long time, the measurement results will be inaccurate. Moreover, the pH meter must be stirred evenly during measurement. The test results will be different at different locations and will also be affected by temperature.
3. The solid content cannot be too low
It is an extremely unprofessional and irresponsible lie to dilute the defoamer at will; the solid content of the defoamer should not be less than 5%. If it is less than 5%, it will seriously affect the use effect of the defoamer, and the state will lose its due state. stability.
4. Pay attention to adding preservatives
After the defoaming agent is diluted, a preservative should be added before it can be left for a long time.
Note: In the absence of a thickener, emulsion-type defoaming agents can only be diluted with cold water. Dilution with hot water will break the emulsion. The diluted defoaming agent will become extremely unstable due to the low concentration of surfactants, and the emulsion will quickly collapse. The delamination fails and the pot life is only 2-4 hours, so the defoamer must be prepared and used immediately after dilution. The amount and time of defoaming agent should be determined after conducting tests to avoid wasting the amount.
