Are there any alternative methods for controlling foam in settling tanks?
Just as the name “
defoamer” suggests, this product line is not the only weapon in the arsenal against foam in settling tanks. Various alternative methods and
defoaming agents can also be utilized.
Silicone-based defoamers are another popular alternative to alcohol-based ones. They’re renowned for their potency and versatility, detaining a wide spectrum of foaming agents. Silicones can be used in hot or cold systems, and their long-lasting antifoaming capabilities make them an ideal choice for many applications.
Non-silicone defoamers, like oil-based or EO/PO based defoamers, are also effective in certain scenarios, especially where silicone use is restricted. Moreover, oil-based
defoamers can be beneficial in applications where the residue is not a significant concern, and EO/PO based
defoamers offer an excellent surface activity.
Sometimes, controlling foam can be achieved by tweaking operational processes. Parameters like adjusting the feed rate, temperature, or the pH of the system might help in reducing the foam’s generation. Investigating the source of foaming and altering process parameters can sometimes be a more cost-effective and long-term solution.
